What Is Car Wrapping?

What Is Car Wrapping?

Car wrapping is a process used to change the colour of a vehicle. By using large sheets of self adhesive vinyl and very highly skilled technicians, a vehicle can be wrapped to change its colour. To an untrained eye, the finished article looks the same as a finished paint job. Chances are you may have come across a wrapped vehicle not even knowing it was wrapped.

So how has this come about then?
Vehicle Wrapping has been much more popular in commercial applications. You may recall seeing SKY vans driving around with full colour images, TAXIS and BUSES have been wrapped for years but mainly for advertising purposes.

Self Adhesive Vinyl has also been used for vehicle graphics / livery / sign writing on vans, cars, buses, boats. It has been around for many years, in different sizes, colours and qualities. The vinyl used for vehicle wrapping must be of high quality and most important it has to be conformable. This means that it can be stretched (to a certain extent) around a cars curves and contours. A good quality vinyl will not only stretch it will remain in place for a minimum amount of time (years). The last thing you want is for vinyl to lift up and not stick to the surface it has been applied to.

Over the years clients have asked us to wrap their personal cars rather than their vans etc. This has huge benefits to a car owner. The obvious is an immediate colour change, the process only takes between 1-3 days depending on the size and complexity of the vehicle. The process wont damage any of the cars original paintwork (unless there is already damage to the paintwork ie: stone chips, peeling paint or laquer). In actual fact, the vinyl protects the cars original paintwork from minor chips and scratches. There are hundreds of colours available as well as specialty finishes such as Matt Black, Carbon Fibre, Pearl Effect colours. The vinyl wrap can be removed at any time to restore the car to its original colour. This can all be done at a fraction of the cost of a full respray.

Obviously the quality of the finish will depend on which company you decide to use. Try to choose a company with staff that have a wealth of experience in the field and a high attention to detail and quality. Ask to see some examples of their work, if not the real thing at least have a look at their portfolio.
