What is a Town Car


A town car is a car body style in history when the front seats were open and the rear compartment closed, normally with a removable roof to cover the driver's compartment before. The modern Lincoln Town Car derives its name, but nothing else, this style, although a special Lincoln built in 1922 to Henry Ford's personal use was called the Town Car.

In Europe, the style is known as  Sedance de Ville, often abbreviated Sedanca or de Ville. Sedanca name was introduced by the Spanish count of Salamanca in 1920.

In 1940 and 1941, a limited edition model of the Cadillac Sixty Special was named Car Town - again as a hardtop in 1949, but translated into French as DeVille Cup and in 1956, a four-door hardtop Sedan DeVille that.
