How Car Engines Work | Learn Parts of the Car Engine
Let us examine some Parts of the Car Engine in more detail.
Spark plug
The spark plug supplies the spark that ignites the air / fuel mixture for combustion can occur. The spark must happen at the right time for everything to work correctly.
Valves
Intake and exhaust valves open at the right time to let air and fuel, and let the exhaust. Note that both valves are closed during compression and combustion so that the combustion chamber is sealed.
Piston
A piston is a cylindrical piece of metal that moves up and down inside the cylinder.
Piston
Segments to provide a sliding seal between the outer edge of the piston and the inner edge of the cylinder. The rings serve two purposes:
* They prevent the fuel / air mixture and combustion chamber exhaust gas leaking into the sump during compression and combustion.
* They keep crankcase oil from entering the combustion chamber, where he would be burned and lost.
Most cars that "burn oil" and must be added in 1000 one quarter mile burn because the engine is old and seamless rings things properly.
Connecting rod
The connecting rod connects the piston to the crankshaft. You can turn on both ends so that its angle can change as the piston and the crankshaft rotates.
Crankshaft
The crankshaft turns the piston downward in a circular motion like a crank on a jack-in-the-box does.
Sump
The sump surrounds the crankshaft. Containing a certain amount of oil that collects in the bottom of the sump (oil pan).
